Winford Allen

Mr. Winford Allen, 86, of Rolling Prairie, Indiana, formerly of Kingsford Heights died Friday April 23, 2010 at his home in Rolling Prairie. He was born February 26, 1924 in Langley, Kentucky, the son of Leo Allen and Minnie May Allen. Winford worked as a crane operator for 35 years at Allis Chalmers Corp. and he retired in 1983. He was president of the union at Allis Chalmers for 19 years. On December 22, 1951, in Kingsbury, IN, he married Barbara Dyer who preceded in death August 13, 2001. He is survived by his five daughters Cheryl Gary Gray of Humble, TX, Barbara Bruce Payne of Mill Creek, IN, Patti Vaughn Galloway of La Porte, IN, Sandi Bert Stringham of La Porte, IN, Linda Steve Palmer of Rolling Prairie, IN; one son Bill Renee Allen of Hamlet, IN; twenty-one grandchildren; sixteen great grandchildren; two sisters Cleo Welch of FL and Judy Rorer of KY. Arrangements are being handled by Haverstock Funeral Home, 602 Maple Ave., LaPorte, Ind. where the family will receive friends Tuesday, April 27, 2010 6:00 pm - 8:00 pm & Wednesday, April 28, 2010 10:00 am until time of the service. Services will be held at Haverstock Funeral Home, Inc., Wednesday April 28, 2010 at 11:00 AM with Rev. Jason Safirt officiating. Interment will follow at the Patton Cemetery, LaPorte, Indiana.
