Wilma Joyce (Huge) Glasshagel, 89, of Oxford, Ohio, passed away Saturday, December 21, 2024 surrounded by her loved ones in Hamilton, Ohio.
She was born October 30, 1935 in La Porte, Indiana, the daughter of Wilbur Huge and Dora (Felten) Huge.
Growing up in La Porte, Indiana, before moving to Michigan City, Indiana in 1968, for many years, Wilma dedicated herself to serving others as a beloved waitress at Lindo's Restaurant in Michigan City. Her genuine smile and welcoming demeanor made her a cherished figure among patrons and coworkers alike. On October 22, 1951 she married her first husband, Robert Chandler, in New Carlisle, Indiana who preceded in death on November 15, 2007. In 2011 she remarried to George Glasshagel in Ohio, who preceded her in death in 2015. An active member of Bethel Chapel Church, Wilma was deeply spiritual and devoted to her faith. Her connection to her church family was profound, as she partook in various activities, sang the Handel's Messiah, and embraced every opportunity to share her faith with others. Until her final days, she found joy in reading the Bible and participating in church events, often recounting her cherished experiences with enthusiasm. Wilma was not just a devoted member of her church but also a vibrant part of her community. She had an uncanny ability to make everyone feel right at home. She loved being social and was often seen at the Oxford Senior Center, where she forged meaningful friendships and spread happiness with her vivacious spirit. She found delight in crossword puzzles and crocheting. Family was at the core of Wilma’s existence. After moving to Oxford, Ohio, to be nearer to her loved ones, she continued to devote herself to her grandchild and great-grandchildren, showering them with affection and sharing her life lessons and stories, including the adventures from her favorite trip to Israel with her first husband-a journey she passionately recounted. Wilma's culinary skills were admirable, especially her famed zucchini bread, which brought comfort to those who tasted it. Beyond cooking, her love for animals, particularly her cats, was evident. She filled her home with warmth and laughter, creating an inviting space where stories were shared, and memories were made.
She is survived by her three sisters, Lydia Livinghouse, Carol Jesswein, Carolyn Snider; step-daughter, Lana Wicker; step-son, Garry (Shelly) Glasshagel; grandchild, Dion Bergeron; three great-grandchildren, Donovan Bergeron, Trevor Bergeron, Orion Frank.
