William Seitz

William "Bill" Russell Seitz July 2, 1929-February 3, 2019 William "Bill" Russell Seitz, 89, of La Porte, IN, passed away Sunday, February 3, 2019 at his home in La Porte, Indiana. He was born July 2, 1929 in La Porte, Indiana, the son of Vernice "Pete" Seitz and Mabel (Renfro) Seitz. Bill was a South Bend Tribune carrier as a young boy and with his earnings bought a kit to build a Kayak. In the early 50's he purchased a ski-boat and spent many hours skiing on Pine Lake in La Porte. He graduated from Rolling Prairie High School and Purdue University. He proudly served his county in the U.S. Army Korea Conflict. Bill spent 33 years at Joy Mfg. Co. in Michigan City, Indiana working as a mechanical designer, where he obtained several patents in his name. After Joy closed, he was employed by Van Air in New Buffalo, Michigan. He was a member of the American Legion Post #83 in La Porte. He was a member of the Whirling Promenders Square Dance Club. He designed and built their home in Springfield Twp. where the Seitz's have lived their entire married life. Bill was a talented craftsman who enjoyed building, clocks, birdhouses, Ferris wheels, carrousels and many other articles that decorated their home. On October 18, 1958, in Rolling Prairie, IN, he married Virginia (Hock) Seitz who survives in La Porte, Indiana. He is also survived by his daughter, Joan Elaine Kelsey; three grandchildren, Victoria, Alexander, and Anastasia Kelsey; two sisters, Jeanette (James) Fowler of Mill Creek, IN, Carol (David) Sanderson of La Porte, IN. Bill was preceded in death by both his parents; son, William Russell Seitz Jr.; three sisters, Lilly Mae Krueger, Mary Jane Magley, Doris Major. Arrangements are being entrusted to Haverstock Funeral Home and Cremation Services, 602 Maple Ave., LaPorte, IN where the family will receive friends Saturday, February 9, 2019 from 9:00 a.m. - 11:00 a.m. A life celebration will be held at Haverstock Funeral Home, Inc., Saturday, February 9, 2019 at 11:00 a.m. with Pastor JoEllyn Chadwick officiating.
