William Rehlander

William Philip Rehlander June 3, 1932 - March 14, 2018 William Philip Rehlander passed away at home on March 14, 2018. He was born at his childhood home in Rolling Prairie, Indiana on June 3, 1932 to Irvin and Sylvia (Stickley) Rehlander. He was a 1950 graduate of Rolling Prairie High School. He was drafted into the US army and served honorably in the Korean War. After returning home, he was at a dance when he met the love of his life, Verna Jean Adnson. They were married at the Community Church in New Carlisle on September 1, 1956. Bill was a member of carpenter Local 1485 for 55 years and was employed at Larson-Danielson for over 30 years, retiring from there in 1994. He also enjoyed farming and cutting wood as a hobby. In his spare time, Bill enjoyed watching IU basketball, watching the Chicago Cubs and White Sox baseball, and spending time with his family. He attended Rolling Prairie First Christian Church. William is survived by his wife of 61 years and four children: Pamala (Greg, MD) Smith of Jeffersonville, IN and John (Janet) Rehlander, Raymond (Kimberly) Rehlander, and Joseph (Angela) Rehlander all of LaPorte, IN. Also surviving are nine grandchildren: Laura Smith, DVM, Aaron (Meghann) Smith, MD, Alicia (Ryan) Whitney, Austin Smith, Janelle Rehlander, Rachel (Kevin) Macias, MD, Maxwell Rehlander, Nicholas Rehlander and Joshua Rehlander, five great-grandchildren: Brinn, Eden, Veda, and Harper Smith and Tucker Macias, a sister-in-law Joan Rehlander, and many extended family members. He was also looking forward to a new great grandson due in April. Preceding him in death were his parents, infant daughter Laurie Jo Rehlander, and 15 siblings: Archie, Floyd, and Clarence Rehlander, Mildred Meyers, Dorothy Schultz, Margie Bunton, Helen Burden, Mae Ebeling, John, Paulina and Irvin Rehlander, Minnie Starkweather, Geneva Rehlander, Genevieve Singleton and Eugene Rehlander. Arrangements are being entrusted to Haverstock Funeral Home and Cremation Services, 602 Maple Ave., LaPorte, Indiana where the family will receive friends Friday, March 16, 2018, 4:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m. and Saturday, March 17, 2018, 10:00 a.m. - 11:00 a.m. A life celebration will be held at Haverstock Funeral Home, Inc., Saturday March 17, 2018 at 11:00 a.m. with Pastor John Marron officiating.
