William Nichols

Mr. William F. Nichols, age 81, of Michigan City, Ind., died Saturday, December 20, 2008, at his residence in Michigan City, He was born Feb. 6, 1927 in LaPorte, Ind. to the late Garl Nichols and the late Lois Benson Nichols. Mr. Nichols worked as a welder for Pullman Standard in Michigan City for 22 years and retired in 1987 from Whites Farm Equipment where he worked for 12 years. Mr. Nichols was a member of the Maple Leaf Motorcycle Club of Michigan City, Ind. He was an avid horse shoe player and loved camping and gardening. He was a devout fan of NASCAR, Notre Dame and the Colts. He was a loving husband of 63 years, married on Feb. 10, 1945 in LaPorte to Della Ruth Ott who survives. He loved his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren very much. He is also survived by his Two Daughters, Linda Szymkowski of Michigan City, Ind., Debbie Ralph Jones of Rolling Prairie, Ind.; One Son, Garry Paula Nichols of Michigan City, Ind.; Seven grandchildren Danny Szymkowski, LaDonna Szymkowski, Brian Hurley, Phillip Nichols, Garry O. Nichols, Josh Dunkleberger, Jenny Callahan; Ten great-grandchildren; One Sister, Pat Martin of La Porte, Ind.; Two Brothers, James Nichols of La Porte, Ind., and Roger D. Nichols of Big Stone Gap, VA, He is preceded in death by his parents; Son-in-law, Larry Szymkowski; Three Sisters, Rosemary Harkleroad, Elsie M. Nichols, Barbara L. Nichols; Four Brothers, Leonard G. Nichols, Roland L. Nichols, Archie W. Nichols, and Robert L. Nichols Arrangements are being handled by Haverstock Funeral Home, Inc., 602 Maple Ave., LaPorte, Ind., where the family will receive friends from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM Monday, December 22, 2008 and from 9:00 AM Tuesday until time of the service. Funeral service will be at Haverstock Funeral Home, Inc. at 10:00 AM Tuesday, December 23, 2008, Rev. Jeff Zigler officiating. Interment will be at Pine Lake Cemetery in La Porte, Ind.
