William Menke

Mr. William A Menke, 82, of La Porte, Indiana, died Saturday April 18, 2009 at Golden Living Center-Countryside in LaPorte, IN. He was born April 28, 1926 in Evansville, Indiana, the son of William Menke and Mary Liscomb Menke, living in the LaPorte, IN. area, most of his life. William worked as a laborer for LaPorte County Highway for sixteen years; he was a Veteran of the US Army during WW II. William enjoyed fishing; he had a green thumb for growing plants. He enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren. On June 1, 1946 in LaPorte, IN., he married Florence Dill, who preceded him in death July 13, 1983. He is survived by his sons- William Barbara Menke of Union Mills, IN, Eugene Menke of Bowling Green, KY; six grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; two sisters, Hilda Ohime of La Porte, IN, Helen Hoffman of ND. William was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Florence Menke; daughter, Betty; one sister, Freida and one brother, Donald. Arrangements are being handled by Haverstock Funeral Home; 602 Maple Ave., LaPorte, Ind. Burial of ashes will take place at a later date.
