William Gilchrist

Mr. William Gilchrist , 82, of La Porte, Indiana, died Wednesday September 23, 2009 at his home in La Porte. He was born May 24, 1927 in Cosby, Missouri, the son of Clifford Gilchrist and Ethel Gnuschke Gilchrist. William retired in 1992 from Advance Transportation Co. as a Traffic Representative. He was a Veteran of the US Army Air Corps., during WW II, he was a member of American Legion Post #83, Elk's Lodge, South Bend Transportation Club, Delta Nu Alpha Fraternity, Sales Council of the IMTA, Beechwood Men's Club and Beechwood Senior's League.. In 1953, he married Mildred L. Gloff, who preceded in death November 15, 2004. He is survived by his grandaughter, Megan Gilchrist of La Porte, IN; great-granddaughter, Leigharyn Gilchrist of LaPorte, IN; three sisters Norma Bardusk of Oak Forest, IL, Ella Porter of LaPorte, IN, Glenna WIlliamson of New Carlisle, IN. and two brothers, James Gilchrist of Granger, IN, Gilbert Gilchrist of Rolling Prairie, IN; William was preceded in death by his, parents; wife; son, Mark Gilchrist and one sister, Nellie Kaufman. Arrangements are being handled by Haverstock Funeral Home, 602 Maple Ave., LaPorte, Ind. A Memorial Gathering with family and friends, will be held at Haverstock Funeral Home, Inc., Friday October 2, 2009 from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM.
