William "Bill" E. Walter March 3, 1933-September 2, 2017 William "Bill" E. Walter, 84, of La Porte, Indiana, passed away Saturday, September 2, 2017 at his home in La Porte, Indiana. He was born March 3, 1933 in La Porte, Indiana, the son of Lorenzo Walter and Edna (Shipton) Walter. William retired in 1991, after 20 years as a route man for United Beverage. He served in the United States Army from 1951-1954. He was a member of the American Legion Post #83 of La Porte. Bill enjoyed playing cards with his friends at the "Friday afternoon Euchre Club". On October 2, 1954, in La Porte, Indiana, he married Nina (Rutherford) Walter who preceded in death October 28, 1991. He is survived by his two sons, William R. (Moneta) Walter of La Porte, IN, Terry L. (Diane) Walter of La Porte, IN; daughter, Marilyn D. (John) Dannar of Mishawaka, IN; six grandchildren, Tracy, Billy, Leighton, Lindsey, Summer, Andrew; seven great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, Lorenza Walter and James Walter; two sisters, Frances Galloway and Celia Mullins. Arrangements are being entrusted to Haverstock Funeral Home and Cremation Services, 602 Maple Ave., La Porte, IN where the family will receive friends Wednesday, September 6, 2017 from 5:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m. and Thursday, September 7, 2017 from 9:30 a.m. - 10:30 a.m. A life celebration will be held at Haverstock Funeral Home, Inc., Thursday, September 7, 2017 at 10:30 a.m, with Pastor Ben Crostreet, officiating. Interment will follow at the Pine Lake Cemetery, LaPorte, Indiana where a military service will be conducted by the American Legion - VFW Honor Guard.
