William Baird

William O Baird, age 80, of Rolling Prairie, Ind., died Friday, February 1, 2008, at LaPorte Hospital in La Porte, Ind. He was born April 24, 1927 in Gary Indiana. He was the son of the late William Baird and the late Mary Broschart Baird. Also preceded in death is his brother Bruce Baird. Mr. Baird lived most of his life in the LaPorte area. Mr. William O. Baird was a 50 year member of the International Brotherhood of Carpenters and Joiners, Local # 1485 and retired from Larson Danielson Contruction Co. in 1990. He enjoyed the outdoors, fishing and hunting, and was an avid trapshooter. Bill was a life member of the New Buffalo Rod & Gun Club, Charter member of Waterfowl USA, Ducks Unlimited, NRA life member, and a member of the American Trapshooter's Association. Bill was active in numerous Masonic Organizations, and served as treasurer and post master of the Rolling Prairie Masonic Lodge # 291, Past Master of the Michigan City Orak Shrine & member of the LaPorte York Rite. A U.S. Navy Veteran of WWII, he was activley involved in many Veteran's organizations: Charter member of the Rolling Prairie VFW Post # 9423, American Legion Post # 297 New Carslile, AMVETS Post 911 Rolling Prairie, and was a nominee of LaPorte County Veteran of the year 2005. Bill enjoyed photography and was a life member of the international freelance Photographer's Association, spending hours photographing his dog, flowers and hummingbirds. Bill was a Labrador Retriever lover, and spent many hours with his buddy, paco and his beloved "Prairie Morning Belle", both whom have preceded him in death. He is also survived by his One Daughter, Mrs. Marla Paul Vido of Louisville, Ky, One Son, Mr Patrick Barbara Baird of Rolling Prairie, Ind, two grandchildren, Michael Baird of Rolling Prairie, Ind, and Jason Baird of Ocala, FL, Sister-in-law-Shirley Baird of Lakestation, Ind, and several Nieces and Nephews. Arrangements are being handled by Haverstock Funeral Home, Inc., 602 Maple Ave., LaPorte, Ind., where the family will receive friends from 2:00 PM to 8:00 PM Tuesday, February 5, 2008. And from 9:00 AM Wednesday February 6, 2008 until time of service at Haverstock Funeral Home. Funeral service will be at Haverstock Funeral Home, Inc. at 11:00 AM Wednesday February 6, 2008 , with Bro. Ransom Ebersole officiating.
