Willard Wakeman

Willard Dean Wakeman December 10, 1922-November 20, 2015 Mr. Willard Dean Wakeman, 92, of Union Mills, Indiana, passed away Friday November 20, 2015 at Porter Memorial Hospital in Valparaiso, IN. He was born December 10, 1922 in La Porte County, Indiana, the son of George B. Wakeman and Fredda O. (Chambers) Wakeman. He was a member of the Bethel Presbyterian Church, South Central School Board, Farm Bureau, Masonic Lodge of Union Mills, and a charter member of the Jolly Boys social group. On April 10, 1948, in La Porte, IN, he married Edith M. Ohime at St. Paul's United Church of Christ. Willard served in the armed forces during World War II. A year after marrying Edith, they moved to a rural residence in Union Mills, where they lived, farmed, and enjoyed family, friends, and neighbors for 66 years. He is survived by his four daughters, Jean M. O'Connell of Hamilton, OH, Anne (Bruce) Deardorff of Sheboygan, WI, Judith L (Dusty) Scutchfield of Knox, IN, Christine O. (Lane) Dittmar of Union Mills, IN; son, Bradley D. (Jennifer) Wakeman of Lewisburg, PA; fourteen grandchildren, Christopher, Bradley, Anthony, Kristen, Nicholas, Elizabeth, Jessica, Jillian, Calleb, Summer, Jasper, Wyatt, Rachel, and Samantha; eleven great-grandchildren, Samuel, Joshua, Zachary, Kaelyn, Bradin, Colin, Odin, Liam, Eli, Scarlet,and Violet; brother, Jack (Carol) Wakeman of Valparaiso, IN; sister, Janet Beutler of Terra Haute, IN; two sisters-in-law, Eleanor Wakeman of Kokomo, IN, and Marj Wakeman of Columbia, MO. Willard was preceded in death by his wife, Edith, his parents George and Fredda, 2 brothers, Lloyd Wakeman and Douglas Wakeman, and a sister, Celia Parsons. Arrangements are being entrusted to Haverstock Funeral Home and Cremation Services, 602 Maple Ave., La Porte, IN. A Masonic service will take place at 11 am, Tuesday, November 24, 2015, at the Bethel Presbyterian Church in Union Mills, IN. Immediately following, the family will receive friends until the time of the funeral service at 1 PM. Rev. John Beehler will officiate. Interment will follow at the Union Mills Cemetery, Union Mills, Indiana. Memorial contributions may be made to the Bethel Presbyterian Church Operating Fund.
