Willa P. Smith June 25, 1914-April 1, 2019 Willa P. Smith, 104, of La Porte, Indiana, passed away Monday, April 1, 2019 at Brentwood Assisted Living in LaPorte, Indiana. She was born June 25, 1914 in London, Ontario, Canada, the daughter of Roy E. Suhr and Mary (Stewart) Suhr. Willa retired in 1981 after working for the State of Michigan Labor Department as an account executive. She has lived in La Porte since 1987 coming from Michigan. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church. Willa enjoyed spending time with her husband tending to their flower gardens, making ceramics, and keeping up with Fox News and politics. On November 18, 1939, in Lincoln Park, Michigan, she married Edgar W. Smith who preceded in death January 11, 2002. She is survived by her son, Roy A. (Doris) Smith of Fort Wayne, IN; granddaughter, Lori Ann (Troy) Saine of Firestone, CO; grandson, James Christopher Smith of Hawaii; great-granddaughter, Alexandra "Belle" Saine of Firestone, CO. Willa was preceded in death by both her parents; son, Ross E. Smith; sister, Doris O. Schutt; brother, Leonard D. Suhr. Arrangements are being entrusted to Haverstock Funeral Home and Cremation Services, 602 Maple Ave., La Porte, Indiana. A life celebration will be held at Michigan Memorial Park Cemetery, 32163 W. Huron River Dr., Flat Rock, Michigan, Friday, April 5, 2019 at 2:00 pm CST with Rev. Doris Smith officiating. Interment will follow at the Michigan Memorial Park Cemetery, Flat Rock, MI.
