The funeral for Mr. Wilbur ?Bud? Stephens, Sr., 87, of 1006 C St., LaPorte, will be Friday at 1:00 p.m. at Haverstock Funeral Home, LaPorte, with Rev. Cindy Barnum-Steggerda and Rev. Ed Richter officiating. She died Tuesday, May 4, 2004, at 11:55 p.m. at LaPorte Hospital. Friends may call Thursday from 2 to 7 p.m. and Friday from 11 a.m. until the service. Burial will be Patton Cemetery, LaPorte. The LaPorte American Legion and VFW Honor Guard will conduct a military graveside service. Memorial Contributions may be made to the VNA Hospice of LaPorte Co., P.O. Box 250, LaPorte, IN. 46350; or to the Church of the Brethren. He was born March 31, 1917, in Dewey, IL. To Leslie and Gertrude F. Moore Stephens and has lived in the LaPorte area since 1939, coming from Wildwood, MI. Mr. Stephens worked as a Precision Grinder for Allis Chalmers Corp. and retired in 1978 after 32 years of service. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army during W.W. II and was awarded the Bronze Star and the Purple Heart. He was a member or the Disabled Veterans #26 of Michigan City, IN. On November 4, 1939 in LaPorte, IN., he married Rena Boody, who died December 22, 1981. Also preceded in death are his parents; one son, Wilbur Stephens, Jr.; one granddaughter, Carrie Stephens; two sisters, Jane Stephens, Wilma McKinnon; and one brother, Raymond Stephens. Surviving are one daughter, Mrs. Judy Ed Richter of LaPorte, IN.; one grandson, Christopher Stephens of Glendale, CA.; and a close friend and companion, Diana Katsianis of LaPorte, IN.
