Wilbur Smith Sr.

Mr. Wilbur A. Smith, Sr., age 90, of New Carlisle, Ind., died Thursday, June 26, 2008, at LaPorte Hospital in La Porte, Ind. He was born February 23, 1918 in South Bend, Ind. to the late Clarence Smith and the late Bessie Langman Smith. He lived most of his life in the LaPorte area. Mr. Smith was employed by U.S. Slicing Machine for 43 years and retired in 1979. He was a member of St. John Lutheran Church. He was also a member of Moose Lodge of LaPorte, IN. and he served in the Army Air Corps during World War II. On December 8, 1945 in Amarillo, Tex. he married Margaret J. Cornell who survives. He is also survived by One Daughter, Mrs. Sandra Jon Ford of Sarasota, Fla.; One Son, Mr. Wilbur Smith, Jr. of Sarasota, Fla.; Four grandchildren; and Seven great-grandchildren. He is prededed in death by his Parents, One Brother and Five Sisters. Arrangements are being handled by Haverstock Funeral Home, Inc., 602 Maple Ave., LaPorte, Ind.
