Wilbur Shaw Sharp 1936 - 2007 Mr. Wilbur Shaw Sharp, 70, of Michigan City, formerly of Jacksboro, TN, passed away Saturday, January 20, 2007 at 2:20 A.M. at LaPorte Hospital after a long illness, with family members at his side. Mr. Sharp was born Nov. 18, 1936 in La Follette, TN to Frank and Lula Weir Sharp, both deceased. He married Betty Kaiser Sharp on May 31St, 1962, who survives. Also surviving are four childen, Sherry Martinez, Angela Nilson Ted, and Wilbur Kyle Sharp from Michigan City and Bryan Keith Sharp from Jackboro TN. 7 Grandchilden, 1 brother, Von Sharp Bonnie from Arcadia, IN and 1 sister Frankie Sharp Hiatt Gary from Arcadia, IN. four nieces and two nephews. His parents and two brothers James Hope Sharp and Mickey Sharp preceded him in death. Mr. Sharp Served four years in the United States Air Force stationed in Maine, Texas, and Chelveston Air force base, Chelveston England. After serving his country, Mr. Sharp worked for Royal Crown Cola Co., Canfields Beverage Co. and retired from Erb Lumber after 15 years of service. He also founded Colonial Mobile Court and Sharp's Surplus and Home Discount Center in Michigan City. He loved his family and took special delight in his grandchildren. He was a true race fan, as a young man he and his father build a 1927 T Roaster drag car and raced it at several tracks in Tenn. Later in life he and his sons built an ASA stock car and raced at such tracks as Michigan International Speedway. He was a true NASCAR fan. He was a member of the United Methodist Church in Jacksboro Tenn. The funeral service will be Wed. Jan. 24 at 11:00 am at Haverstock Funeral Home in LaPorte with Pastor David Hill officiating. Friends and family may call Tuesday, Jan 23 from 4 pm to 8 pm and 9:00 AM Wed. until time of the service. Burial will be at Pine Lake Cemetery in LaPorte.
