Wayne A. Heminger, 73, of Lafayette, Indiana, passed away Tuesday August 13, 2024 at Iroquois Memorial Hospital in Illinois.

He was born September 9, 1950 in La Porte, Indiana, the son of Arthur and Shirley (Tibbs) Heminger.

Wayne, who grew up in Hudson Lake, IN, graduated from New Prairie High School, class of 1969, and went on to earn his Associates in Industrial Photography from Ivy Technical College. He served in the United States Air Force in Thailand during the Vietnam War and went on to serve in the National Guard until his retirement. Wayne also worked for Lear Corporation in Hammond. He was a faithful Christian and attended Mayflower Baptist Church as well as others through the years. He believed in service to others, so he was often seen helping at the church or in his neighborhood with any project that came his way. Wayne loved to read, enjoyed fishing, and was the self declared official photographer at family events. Most precious to him, though, was his family, especially his beloved grandchildren.

On January 23, 1982, in South Bend, he married Roberta Eileen Scott, who survives. He is also survived by his sons, Marcus (Annette) Heminger of Kingsbury, TX, David (Ashlee) Heminger of Morocco, IN; daughter, Kathryn Flo Swafford of Lafayette, IN; two brothers, Garry (Sandy) Heminger of South Bend, IN, Scott Heminger of Hudson Lake, IN; three sisters, Linda (Brad) Kenyon of Athens, MI, Ann (Mike) Bromley of New Carlisle, IN, Ruth Heminger of Hudson Lake, IN; seven grandchildren, Julian, Zoe, Sophia, Jacqueline, Miranda, Gavin and Becket; Godson, Adam Francisco Munoz III, and a large extended family.

Wayne was preceded in death by his parents and sister, JoEllen Bee.

Arrangements are being entrusted to Haverstock Funeral Home and Cremation Services, 602 Maple Ave., LaPorte, IN where the family will receive friends for a viewing on Sunday, August 25, 2024 from 1:00 - 3:00 p.m., with a funeral service at 3:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Military honors will be presented. Cremation will take place.
