Virginia P. McAlister April 11, 1926-August 30, 2009 Mrs. Virginia Pearl McAlister, 83, of La Porte, Indiana, died Sunday August 30, 2009 at her daughter's residence in Claypool, IN. She was born April 11, 1926 in Kitts, Kentucky, the daughter of Edward Bennett and Nettie Bullock Bennett. Virginia worked for American Home Foods for twenty-years, retiring in 1984. She was a member of the Freewill Baptist Church of LaPorte. She taught Sunday school at the Freewill Baptist Church, she loved her cat "Camille". She enjoyed crocheting, reading and crossword puzzles. Virginia was a loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and great-great grandmother. On March 16, 1948, in Winchester, KY, she married Vernon T. McAlister who preceded her in death on September 8, 2003. She is survived by her four daughters, Phyllis David Lane of Kingsford Heights, IN., Deborah Larry Reese of LaPorte, IN, Lisa Tony Rowe of Claypool, IN, Lori James Hutson of Kingsford Heights, IN; one son, Thomas McAlister of LaPorte, IN; twelve grandchildren, thirty great-grandchildren, one great- great grandchild,; three sisters, Verna Holland of OH, Patricia Kern of OH. and Sue Cox of OK. Virginia was preceded in death by her parents, husband, six sisters, one brother and two great grandchildren. Arrangements are being handled by Haverstock Funeral Home, 602 Maple Ave., LaPorte, Ind. where the family will receive friends Tuesday, September 1, 2009 from 11:00 am - 8:00 pm & Wednesday, September 2, 2009 from 9:00 am, until time of service. Services will be held at Haverstock Funeral Home, Inc., Wednesday September 2, 2009 at 10:00 AM. Interment will follow at the Patton Cemetery, LaPorte, Indiana.
