Virgil Tibbs

Mr. Virgil L. Tibbs, 83 of 1900 Andrew Avenue, LaPorte, IN died Thursday October 7, 2004 at 11:15 p.m. at Fountainview Terrace in LaPorte, Indiana He was born June 19, 1921 in Ellis, MI to Harley and Laura Lumley Tibbs who has preceded. Mr. Tibbs lived in the LaPorte area, for 70 years, coming from Michigan. Mr. Tibbs worked at New York Blower as a welder for 35 years and retired in 1984. On July 29, 1944 he married Dorothy Wellinski who preceded in 1990, also preceded in death are four sisters, five brothers. Surviving is a daughter Mrs. Vicki Joe Mikalajunas, a son Mr. Frank Betty Tibbs of Johnson City, TN, a son Mr. James Tibbs of LaPorte, IN, a son Mr. Mark Valerie Tibbs of LaPorte, IN, a sister Mrs. Hazel Salzer of LaPorte, IN, a sister Mrs. Joan Brown of LaPorte, IN, and a sister Mrs. Norma Jean Wiltfong of LaPorte, IN a brother Mr. Samuel Donna Tibbs of LaPorte, IN. He has 10 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren Mr. Tibbs was a member of the St. John Lutheran church, and was a member of the American Legion Post #400, past member of VFW of LaPorte #1130. Mr. Tibbs is a veteran of the US Navy during WWII. Mr. Tibbs enjoyed bird watching and taking pictures of his family members. The Funeral will be Monday at 2:00 p.m. at Haverstock Funeral Home, LaPorte, with Rev. Ronald Brauer officiating. Friends may call Sunday October 10, 2004 from 4 to 8 p.m. and from 10:00 a.m. Monday until time of service. Burial will be in Pine Lake Cemetery, LaPorte, IN. Military Honors will be rendered by the American Legion Post #400 of Fish Lake, IN. Memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer?s Association N. Indiana chapter 108 N.
