Mrs. Verta Mae Jarrett, 76, of La Porte, Indiana, died Thursday May 6, 2010 at her home, surrounded lovingly by her three girls. She was born January 7, 1934 in Gideon, Missouri, the daughter of Charlie Matthews and Victory Matthews-Arnold. Verta was a devoted mother, wife and grandma. Her family was the most important thing to her. She was a member of First Church of God. Verta loved gardening, garage sales and playing rummy with her family. She enjoyed cooking, especially baking her famous chocolate chip cookies for her grandchildren. On May 13, 1950, in Pickett, Arkansas, she married Clifford Jarrett who preceded her in death September 1, 2006. She is survived by her three daughters - Jo Ann Michael Wallace of Mesa, AZ, Debbie Esposito of La Porte, IN, Vicky Jarrett of Camby, IN; four grandchildren - Melissa Wallace, Amanda Wallace, Colton Esposito, Brittany Esposito; three great-grandchildren - Alexa Robinson, Kailyn Wallace, Kenja Dillard; brother Junior Arnold, four sisters - Mary Constant, Linda Ash, Judy Tracy, and JoAnn Sankey. Verta was preceded in death by her parents, husband, and three brothers, Doyle Arnold, Grady Arnold and Larry Arnold. Arrangements are being handled by Haverstock Funeral Home, 602 Maple Ave., LaPorte, Ind. where the family will receive friends Sunday, May 9, 2010 from 4:00 pm - 8:00 pm & Monday, May 10, 2010 12:00 pm, until time of services. Services will be held at Haverstock Funeral Home, Inc., Monday May 10, 2010 at 1:00 PM with Rev. Jeff Zigler officiating. Interment will follow at the Patton Cemetery, LaPorte, Indiana.
