Velma Sue Whitman March 11, 1948-February 22, 2015 Mrs. Velma Sue Armentrout Whitman, 66, of La Porte, Indiana, died Sunday February 22, 2015 at Memorial Hospital in South Bend, IN. She was born March 11, 1948 in Mishawaka, Indiana, the daughter of Odious Armentrout and Ione (Willingham) Armentrout. Velma was a homemaker. She was a member of First Christian Church of Rolling Prairie. Velma loved to play Bingo, make ceramics, music, dancing and nature. She liked to take long walks in the woods. She was a Christian women and was a peace maker. She is survived by her two sons, Brian W. Mast of La Porte, IN, Davie (Brandi) Derr; two daughters, Tawnya R. Whitman of La Porte, IN, Dawn R. (Dale) Nowatzke of Mill Creek, IN; ten grandchildren, Kaitlyn Ott, Brenner Derr, Gage Derr, Kenna Derr, Jaron Lazo, Cameron Bailey, Trey Major, Angelica Schlegelmilch, James Miller III, Cheyenne Miller; five great grandchildren, Breana Lazo, Taryn Lazo, Elyana Lazo, Annie Steele, Blake Steele; two sisters, Gail (Alan) Hummel of Bremen, IN, Laura Cox of South Bend, IN; two brothers, Michael Hull of Rolling Prairie, IN, Jon (Donna) Hull of La Porte, IN. Velma was preceded in death by her parents and a brother, Edward F. Hull. Arrangements are being entrusted to Haverstock Funeral Home and Cremation Services, 602 Maple Ave., La Porte, IN where the family will receive friends Friday, February 27, 2015, 10:00 am - 12:00 pm. A life celebration will be held at Haverstock Funeral Home, Inc., Friday February 27, 2015 at 12:00 pm with Rev. Ransom Ebersole officiating. Interment will follow at the Rolling Prairie Cemetery, Rolling Prairie, Indiana. Memorial contributions may be made to the family of Velma Whitman.
