Thomas G. Sharp

Thomas Sharp, 87, of Kingsford Heights, Indiana, passed away Sunday, February 6, 2022 at Porter Regional Hospital in Valparaiso, IN.

He was born May 23, 1934 in Birmingham, Alabama, the son of Gordon Sharp and Dovie Mae (Towers) Sharp.

On August 28, 1953, in Arkansas, Thomas married Mary Nell Maynard, who preceded him in death July 16, 2001.  He was also preceded in death by his parents, siblings James Sharp, Joe Sharp, Kenneth Sharp, Dale Ray Sharp, Opal Sharp, Geraldine Thompson (Sharp), Mary Emmer Carroll (Sharp), and his son Danny Sharp.

Thomas is survived by his siblings, Hugh Sharp, Coy Sharp, Dorothy (Sharp) Dawson, Kathy (Sharp) McCarroll; daughter, Reba Sharp of Portage, IN; granddaughter Jennifer (Sharp) Hacker of Portage and two great-grandchildren, Kaleb and Jacob Hacker.

Thomas and Mary moved to Hammond, Indiana from Arkansas in 1956, where he worked as a self- employed roofer and HVAC engineer. He was a very sociable man and enjoyed meeting his friends for a beer and a game of billiards. Thomas was a phenomenal pool player and was well known for this throughout Northwest Indiana. He was a member of the Sons of the American Legion, Kingsford Heights and enjoyed fishing and hiking with his granddaughter.  An immaculate dresser, Thomas would always show up in his neatly pressed Levis, a button down collar shirt and his cowboy boots and hat, sporting a cigarette and a Pepsi. He will be missed by all who knew him. In addition, he was a skilled woodworker and would make very detailed models of trucks from wood.

Arrangements are being entrusted to Haverstock Funeral Home and Cremation Services, 602 Maple Ave., La Porte, IN.  Cremation will take place.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the family to honor his wishes.
