Stephen Frank

Mr. Stephen J. Frank, 88, of La Porte, Indiana, died Tuesday October 6, 2009 at his home. He was born May 15, 1921 in Budapest, Hungry, the son of Ivan John Frank and Anna Frank and was raised in Chicago, IL along with five brothers and five sisters. Stephen worked for a sawmill and enjoyed boxing from 1937 to 1941. He served in the US Army from 1942 - 1944. After returning from WW II he went to work as a metal polisher for Berkel Corp. - US Slicing Machine Co. for 40 plus years and retired in 1982. During retirement Stephen assisted at Bob's Metal Polishing. Stephen was a member of the American Legion Post #83 of LaPorte. On August 30, 1942, in LaPorte, IN, he married Doris L. Major who preceded in death March 16, 1978. He is survived by his three sons, Terry Frank of Leesburg, IN, Danny Frank and Bart Frank both of La Porte, IN; nine grandchildren and fifteen great grandchildren. Stephen was preceded in death by his parents, wife, and one son, Bruce Frank. Arrangements are being handled by Haverstock Funeral Home, 602 Maple Ave., LaPorte, Ind. Stephen has requested to have his body donated for medical research at Indiana University Medical Center. There will be a celebration of Stephen's life at a Memorial Gathering for family and friends on Monday, October 12, 2009 from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm at the Haverstock Funeral Home.
