Stanley "Skid" Small November 26, 1923-December 18, 2013 Mr. Stanley "Skid" Small, 90, of La Porte, Indiana, died Wednesday December 18, 2013 at Golden Living Center Fountainview in LaPorte, IN. He was born November 26, 1923 in Hagwich, Illinois, the son of John Small and Mary (Kuc) Small. Stanley worked as a machinest for 36 years at Allis Chalmers, retiring in 1982, he also retired as a carpenter after 30 years.. He was a member of First United Methodist Church, Veteran of the US Navy during WW II. Stanley was a member of the V.F.W Post #1130 and American Legion Michigan City Swait Post #451. He was an active member of the LaPorte High School Booster Club. He was very active and involved in all youth sports through out his life. Stanley loved being involved with his grandchildren and their sports. He and Katherine loved to dance and enjoyed traveling all over to compete in dance contests. On January 22, 1955, in La Porte, he married Katherine (Eggert) Small who survives. He is also survived by his daughter - Peggy (John) Moore of Michigan City, IN; son - David (Kimberly) Small of La Porte, IN; 2 grandsons - Matthew Jones, Nathan Jones, and brother - William (JoAnn) Harber of South Bend, IN. Stanley was preceded in death by his parents, 2 brothers, Walter Small, George Harber, and 2 sisters, Sophia Pavolka, and Amelia Olson. Arrangements are being entrusted to Haverstock Funeral Home and Cremation Services, 602 Maple Ave., LaPorte, IN where the family will receive friends on Friday, December 20, 2013 from 4:00 pm to 8:00 pm and Saturday, December 21, 2013 from 9:00 am until time of service. A life celebration will be held at Haverstock Funeral Home on Saturday, December 21, 2013 at 10:00 am with Rev. Evan Lash, officiating. Interment will follow at the Door Village Cemetery, LaPorte, Indiana. Memorial contributions may be made to the First United Methodist Church 1225 Michigan Ave. La Porte, IN 46350 or Donor's Choice.
