Shirley Smith

Mrs. Shirley M. Smith, age 80, of Rolling Prairie, Ind., died 9:45 AM Friday, March 7, 2008, at her son's residence in Kingsford Heights, Ind. She was born December 26, 1927 in Toledo, Ohio to the late Ora Ratliff and the late Blanche Chaney Ratliff. She has lived in the LaPorte area since 1943 coming from Toledo, Ohio. Mrs. Smith was employed by American Rubber Factory and was a member of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. On March 9, 1944 in LaPorte, Ind. she married James H. Smith who preceded in death May 6, 1953. She is survived by her Three Daughters, Mrs. Betty Robert Day of Rolling Prairie, Ind., Mrs. Melody Ann Barry Wulitch of New Prague, Minn., Mrs. Cynthia Lea "Powell" Poplawski of La Porte, Ind., Two Sons, Mr. Raymond Lee Barb Smith of Indianapolis, Ind., Mr. Jerry Paul Mary Smith of Kingsford Heights, Ind.; Three Sisters, Mrs. Beverly J. Gray of Tennessee, Mrs. Jane P. William Dennison of Cicero, Ind., Mrs. Leona J. Miller of Indianapolis, Ind.; One Brother, Mr. Gerald Ratliff of Rolling Prairie, Ind.; Twenty grandchildren; Thirty Seven great-grandchildren; and Four great-great grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her Parents, Husband, Son James Smith, and Two Brothers, Leonard Paul Ratliff and Ora Ratliff Jr. Arrangements are being handled by Haverstock Funeral Home, Inc., 602 Maple Ave., LaPorte, Ind., where the family will receive friends from 11:00 AM to 8:00 PM Monday, March 10, 2008 and Tuesday from 11:00 AM until time of the service. Funeral service will be at Haverstock Funeral Home, Inc. at 1:00 PM Tuesday, March 11, 2008, Brother Richard Scroggins officiating. Interment will be at Patton Cemetery in LaPorte, Ind.
