Shirley Hewitt

Mrs. Shirley P. Hewitt, 77, of LaPorte, Indiana, died Thursday December 10, 2009 at Golden Living Center Fountainview in LaPorte. She was born March 11, 1932 in LaPorte, Indiana, the daughter of Norman Ohlis and Lucy Stubblefield Ohlis. Shirley was a homemaker and was co-owner of the Avenue Bar for six years with her late husband John. She also was a librarian at Hailman Elementary School for years. She was a member of the LaPorte, Porter, Starke Co. Tavern Associates; the Teamsters Retiree Club #298 and the Ladies Auxiliary for American Legion Post #83 of LaPorte. On October 2, 1954, in LaPorte, IN, she married John Hewitt who preceded her in death October 9, 2009. She is survived by her son, Wayne Janet Hewitt of Santa Barbara, CA; daughter, Diana John Quinn of LaPorte, IN; three grandchildren, Mathew Hewitt of Santa Barbara, CA, Robert Hewitt of Santa Barbara, CA, Joey Quinn of LaPorte, IN; two sisters, Betty Shipton of LaPorte, IN and Joan Hope of LaPorte, IN. Shirley was preceded in death by her parents, husband, John Hewitt and two sons Roger Hewitt and Kevin Hewitt. Arrangements are being handled by Haverstock Funeral Home, 602 Maple Ave., LaPorte, Ind. where the family will receive friends Sunday, December 13, 2009 from 4:00 pm - 8:00 pm & Monday, December 14, 2009 at 9:00 am, until time of services. Services will be held at Haverstock Funeral Home, Inc., Monday December 14, 2009 at 10:00 AM with Rev. Ronald A. Brauer officiating. Interment will follow at the Patton Cemetery, LaPorte, Indiana.
