Sharon Lee Grace, 83, of La Porte, Indiana, left her earthly bonds on Monday, January 27, 2025 at Brentwood Assisted Living in La Porte, IN.

The oldest child of seven, she was born March 9, 1941 in La Porte, Indiana, the daughter of Edwin Whorwell and Ruth (Jones) Whorwell, who preceded her in death. She was also preceded in death by her wonderful husband, Joseph Grace; brother, Jack (Vivian Tolson)Whorwell and sister Ruth Ann Whorwell, all gone too soon.

Sharon is survived by her two brothers, Edwin Russell (Stella) Whorwell of Sharonville, OH, Danny (Pamela) Whorwell of La Porte; two sisters, Betty (David) Crook of Westville, IN, Dawn (Jeffrey) Werner of Union Mills, IN; step-son, Eric (Berry) Decker of TN; step-daughter, Cyndi Oakes; grandchildren, Garrett Decker, Nick, Chelsea and Vincent Forkner and several nieces and nephews.

Sharon's life was full of adventure. She graduated from high school and joined the United States Army, serving as a medical specialist while stationed in France and England. After service, Sharon enrolled in St Joseph School of Nursing in Alton IL, earning her RN degree. She returned to La Porte, working many years at La Porte Hospital, where she was instrumental in establishing the Cardiac Care Unit along with Dr. Barbara Backer. She continued her career in Illinois as a Chemotherapy nurse before returning to La Porte and working at Westville Correctional Facility, where she retired after 12 years. In her free time, Sharon was an avid reader, enjoyed oil painting and was an enthusiastic gardener who loved her flowers, especially roses and lillies. Her life as she knew it was shortened as she succumbed to dementia. Her family wishes to thank Brentwood Assisted Living and AstraCare Hospice for allowing her death with dignity.

Arrangements are being entrusted to Haverstock Funeral Home and Cremation Services, 602 Maple Ave., La Porte, IN where the family will receive friends for a viewing on Sunday, February 2, 2025 from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. and Monday, February 3, 2025 from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. A Funeral Service will begin at 11:00 a.m., with brother Danny Whorwell, officiating and military honors rendered. Interment will follow at the Patton Cemetery, LaPorte, Indiana, next to her beloved Joe.

Memorial contributions may be made in her honor and in honor of the dogs she loved, her Yorkies and her rescue pup, Suzie, to the La Porte Small Animal Shelter and Jane Bernard pet adoption center, 2855 IN-2, La Porte, IN 46350
