Sandra Kay McDaniel (Peterson), passed away at her residence on March 23, 2024, surrounded by family.  She was born in Lansing, Michigan on December 20, 1941 to Frederick A. and Mary Bernice Balderson.  Sandy graduated from DeWitt High School in DeWitt, Michigan in 1960. 

Sandy lovingly provided childcare for many years in Rolling Prairie and later worked in the Housekeeping Department at LaPorte Hospital from which she retired in 2007.  She was a dedicated member of the Rolling Prairie Methodist Church and later the La Porte New Church. Sandy was known for her loving and nurturing personality. She found joy in tending to her garden, delving into books as an avid reader, and spending hours engrossed in her Bible. Her skills as an excellent seamstress were matched only by her prowess in the kitchen - she was renowned for cooking and baking.

Sandy will be dearly missed by her surviving family and friends, including her son Shawn (Kim Younglund) McDaniel of Mustang, OK,  daughter Sue Krentz of LaPorte, IN, son Jason (Amy) McDaniel of Michigan City, IN, and her grandchildren Kathleen, Ellen & Bridget McDaniel, Rachel & Jacob Krentz, and Mira & Christian McDaniel.

She is preceded in death by her parents Frederick A. and Mary “Bernice”, her step-mother, Arlene (Lietzke) Balderson, and the father of her children, Spencer McDaniel.

During this time of mourning and reflection on a life well-lived, let us remember Sandy for the love she shared with those around her and the light she brought into the lives of many. May she rest in peace knowing she was cherished by all who had the privilege of knowing her. Special thanks to her daughter Sue for taking such good care of her in her final months and Heart to Heart Hospice for their immense kindness and care.

Arrangements are being entrusted to Haverstock Funeral Home and Cremation Services, 602 Maple Ave., LaPorte, IN.  A life celebration will be held later in July, cremation to take place.
