Sammie Coats

Sammie E. Coats, age 73, of La Porte, Ind., died 4:40 AM Saturday, January 12, 2008, at LaPorte Hospital in La Porte, Ind. She was born January 22, 1934 in Cotton Plant, Ark. to the late Robert Floyd and the late Ardella Shelton Floyd and she has lived most of her life in the LaPorte area. Coats was retired from American Home Foods as a machine operator for 20 years. She also worked at Meyers for 7 year. She loved cooking, gardening and spend time with her loving family. On November 2, 1950 in Augusta, Ark she married Johnnie Coats Jr. who preceded in death November 20, 1981. She is survived by her Five Daughters, Ruby Coats of La Porte, Ind., Brinda Coats of La Porte, Ind., Shirley Stanley of Michigan City, Ind., Marline Coats of Atlanta, Ga., Sandra Coats of Lafayette, Ind.; Four Sons, Morris Anna Coats of Carmel, Ind., James Coats of La Porte, Ind., Johnnie Coats, III of La Porte, Ind., Troy Coats of La Porte, Ind.; Eleven grandchildren, Nicole Coats of LaPorte, Ind. Jerome Foster of Detroit, Mich., Marla Foster of Detroit Mich., Chastity Stanley of Michigan City, Ind., Sky N. Coats of Lafayette, Ind., Johnnie Coats of Carmel, Ind., Monica Coats of Carmel, Ind., Emily Coats of Carmel, Ind., Nicholas Greer of Atlanta, Ga., Zion Greer of Atlanta, Ga., James Coates Jr. of LaPorte, Ind.; Two great-grandchildren, Demetrius Coats of LaPorte, Ind., Mason Hervey of Michigan City, Ind.; Two Sisters, Eurma Nevels of Kansas City, Mo., Deloise Marshall of Kansas City, Mo.; and One Brother, Artee Jimmerson of Kansas City, Mo. She is preceded in death by her parents, Step Father Willard Jimmerson Sr.; two Brothers Willard Jimmerson, and Tommy Jimmerson. Arrangements are being handled by Haverstock Funeral Home, Inc., 602 Maple Ave., LaPorte, Ind., where the family will receive friends from 2:00 to 4:00 and 6:00 to 8:00 PM Tuesday, January 15, 2008 and from 9:00 AM until time of the service at the church. Funeral service will be at the Community AME Church, 102 Ludlow St., LaPorte, Ind. at 11:00 AM Wednesday, January 16, 2008, Pastor Terry O'Neal and Pastor Curtis Gillespie officiating. Interment will be at Pine Lake Cemetery in La Porte, Ind. Memorial Contributions may be made to the family of Sammie E. Coats in care of the Haverstock Funeral Home.
