Mrs. Ruth Harriette Wooden, 86, of La Porte, Indiana, died Sunday March 28, 2010 at her home. She was born August 11, 1923 in Morgan County, Indiana, the daughter of Harry Goss and Mary Shireman Goss. She moved to the LaPorte, area in 1945 coming from Martinsville, Indiana. Ruth was a homemaker. She was a member of First Christian Church of LaPorte, Ruth Circle of the church, past president of CWF Group, elder and choir member of the church. She was past president of Tri-Kappa, also a member of the Camera and Travel Club, LaPorte County Historical Society and A.A.R.P. She went to high school in Martinsville, IN. and completed one year at Indiana State University at Terre Haute, IN. Ruth loved flowers, gardening and traveling with her husband. On April 21, 1943, in Martinsville, IN, she married William Hugh Wooden, who preceded her in death on November 22, 2001. She is survived by her two daughters, Kathleen E. Beth Lively Wooden of Noblesville, IN, Rebecca Ruth Wooden of LaPorte, IN; four sons, William H. Susan Wooden II of Silver Spring, MD, Michael J.Diane Gallo Wooden of Hammond, IN, Robert L. Janet Wooden of La Porte, IN, John H. Cindy Wooden of La Porte, IN; seven grandsons, one grandaughter, three great-grandaughters and two great-grandsons, sister-in-law, Marguerite Lucille Goss; brother-in-law John R. Wooden and a special friend, Brone Zubaviciene. Ruth was preceded in death by her parents, husband; daughter, Mary A. Wooden, one brother and one sister. Arrangements are being handled by Haverstock Funeral Home, 602 Maple Ave. The family will receive friends on Saturday, April 10, 2010 from 10:00 am until time of service at the church. A memorial service will be held at the First Christian Church 610 Maple Avenue, LaPorte, IN., Saturday, April 10, 2010 at 11:00 A.M. with Rev. Everett Shattuck, officiating. Cremation will take place. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the First Christian Church General Fund, 610 Maple Ave., LaPorte, IN. 46350.
