Russell W. Wineholt, 90, Oakwoods Manor, LaPorte, IN. passed away Thursday, Feb. 12, 2004 at 9:00 a.m. at the LaPorte Hospital. Russell?s life began May 3, 1913 in Kingsbury, IN. the first son of Daniel and Lottie Clayton Wineholt, and is a life long resident of the LaPorte area. He was united in marriage on Aug. 19, 1939 in LaPorte, IN. to Hazel Tryon who has preceded in death on April 14, 1989. Following a 3 week driving honeymoon to California, Russ and Hazel farmed in Washington Twp. until the government purchased the farm in 1941, to make munitions for W.W.II. In 1942 Russ and Hazel purchased a farm on U.S. Highway 6 where they dairy, livestock and crop farmed for 48 years. Russell was a farm appraiser and farm auction clerk and managed many farm auctions. Russ was an active member of his community. He served as County Commissioner for 12 years, Director of the LaPorte Bank and Trust and the Union Mills Bank, LaPorte County Fair Director, avid supporter of 4-H, President of Kingsbury Cemetery Assoc., Life Member of the Kingsbury Masonic Lodge #222, member of the Bethel Presbyterian Church of Union Mills, Board Member of the LaPorte County Zoning Appeals, Lions Club Member, and participated and donated freely of his time to many community activates. Russell spent many winters in Lakeland, Florida where he enjoyed new friends, playing cards, visiting local dairy farms and eating fresh grapefruit and strawberries. Russell was a generous and caring father, grandfather, uncle and friend to many. His loving extended family that survive include one son, Norman Kathryn Wineholt of LaPorte; two granddaughters, Lindsey and Carlee Wineholt; a special loving friend and companion Florence Poston of LaPorte; two nephews, Dan Wineholt and Tom Wineholt both of LaPorte; one sister-in-law, Marie Wineholt of LaPorte. Preceding Russell in death were his wife Hazel; one daughter, Norma Meyer, a teacher; his parents; and one brother George Wineholt. The funeral will be Sunday Feb. 15, 2004 at 2:00 p.m. at Haverstock Funeral Home, LaPorte, with Pastor John Beehler officiating. Friends may call Saturday from 1 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. and from Noon Sunday until the service. A Masonic Service will be conducted at 7 p.m. Sat at the funeral home by the Kingsbury Masonic Lodge #222. Burial will be in the Kingsbury Cemetery, Kingsbury, IN., Memorial contributions may be made to the Bethel Presbyterian Church, Union Mills, IN.
