Mrs. Rose Miller, 77, of La Porte, died Tuesday, March 6, 2007, at 11 p.m. at La Porte Hospital. She was born Feb. 19, 1930, in Chicago to James and Rose Svoboda, and had lived in the La Porte area since 1954, coming from Bridgman, Mich. Mrs. Miller was a clerk at Kmart for 10 years, retiring in 1982. She was also a homemaker and a member of Jolly Janes Homemakers Club. She enjoyed cooking and crocheting and loved her family and friends. On May 2, 1953, in Bridgman, she married James A. Miller Sr., who survives. Also surviving are two daughters, Kathryn James Pedretti and Nancy David Arndt, both of La Porte; two sons, James A. Jr. Kathryn of Westville and Thomas R. of La Porte; five grandchildren, Joy Beth Miller, Sarah and James Pedretti, and Taylor and Morgan Arndt; and two brothers, James Svoboda of Aurora, Ill., and Robert Svoboda from Bridgeman. Her parents and one brother, Joseph Svoboda, preceded her in death. The funeral will be Saturday at 10:30 a.m. at Haverstock Funeral Home, La Porte, with Rev. Rick Abbott officiating. Friends may call Friday from 4 to 8 p.m. and Saturday from 9 a.m. until the service. Burial will be in Pine Lake Cemetery, La Porte.
