Mr. Robert W. Vantine, 48, of Bloomington, Indiana, died Tuesday August 11, 2009 at the home of his parent's in La Porte, IN. He was born July 23, 1961 in La Porte, Indiana, the son of Robert Vantine and Rita Lee Vantine. Robert received a BA degree in education from Indiana University and a master's degree in counseling from I.U.S.B. He had taught in the La Porte School Systems. He is the associate director of the Office of Mentoring Services and Leadership Development and the Director of the Office of Strategic Mentoring at Indiana University in Bloomington. He was a member of La Porte Co. 4-H and La Porte Co. Horse and Pony Club - Showed on the national circuit of the Appaloosa Horse Club. He loved his horses and his John Deere 60 tractor. He was a friend to everyone and a great listener. He always had a smile for everyone. He is survived by his parents Robert and Rita Vantine; an aunt and uncle Betty and Fred Hedington of North Liberty, IN; uncle and aunt, Gene and Ada Lee of La Porte, IN; aunt, Kay Lee of Twisp, WA;and several cousins. Robert was preceded in death by his Grandparents and Aunts. Arrangements are being handled by Haverstock Funeral Home, 602 Maple Ave., LaPorte, Ind. where the family will receive friends Thursday, August 13, 2009 from 6:00 pm - 8:00 pm & Friday, August 14, 2009 1:00 pm until time of the service. Services will be held at Haverstock Funeral Home, Inc., Friday August 14, 2009 at 2:00 PM, with Rev. Jay Loucks, officiating. Interment will follow at the Oak Grove Cemetery, Mill Creek, Indiana. A Memorial Service will be held in Bloomington, Indiana on August 25, 2009 at 5:30 pm at the Neal Marshall Black Culture Center-Grand Hall.
