Robert Travis

Mr. Robert Powell Travis, 75, of 1011 W. Severs Rd., LaPorte, passed away Saturday, June 12, 2004, at 10:40 a.m. at Memorial Hospital of South Bend. He was born Oct. 23, 1928, in La-Porte to Gerald A. and Gladys Graves Travis, and had lived in this area all his life. Mr. Travis was a farmer and coowner of Square Deal Farm. He was a member of First Christian Church of LaPorte and Yana Club. He was chairman of both LaPorte County Drainage Board and La-Porte-Starke-Marshall County Drainage Board, and a member of Starke County Drainage Board. He was a past member and an Indiana delegate of the National Potato Board, past representative of Mens Commission for Disciples of Christ, and past president of Winnebago Itasca Travelers. On Nov. 5, 1949, in LaPorte, he married JoAnn Burns, who survives. Also surviving are four daughters, Diana Johnson, Doreen Craig Trusty and Darla, all of La-Porte, and Denice Tobolski of Ashland, Ohio; 11 grandchildren, Christopher Pieschala of Bolingbrook, Ill., Heidi Chalik, Amanda Matzke, Tara Foster, Colleen Trusty and Danita, Danielle and Dennis "Bubba" Nix, all of La-Porte and Andrea Grendahl and Laura and Sarah Tobolski, all of Ohio; four great-grandchildren, Nickoles and Kylee Matzke, Alyssa Foster and Amira Bernard, all of LaPorte; and one sister, Jean Kanney of Edwardsburg, Mich. He was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters, Nona Piat and Naomi Sabones; and one brother, Gerald X. Travis. The funeral will be Tuesday at 11 a.m. at Haverstock Funeral Home, LaPorte, with Rev. Robert Story officiating. Friends may call today from 3 to 8 p.m. and Tuesday from 9 a.m. until the service. Burial will be in Salem Chapel Cemetery, Salem Heights.
