Robert Peo

Robert Lynn Peo September 14, 1919-July 16, 2017 Mr. Robert Lynn Peo, 97, of Merrillville, Indiana, passed away Sunday, July 16, 2017 at Virginia Place Assisted Living, in Merrillville, Indiana. He was born September 14, 1919 in Springfield Twp, Indiana, the son of Albert Peo and Laura (Hileman) Peo. Robert was a member of the Free Methodist Church of Springville, Indiana where he served as Sunday School Superintendent and in the construction of the additions to the church property. He served in the United States Army during WWII in Company B of the 37th Amphibian Engineers Battalion, during the Normandy landing as a mechanic maintaining trucks, including General Eisenhower's vehicles when the General was in the area. General Eisenhower referred to him as "Chief" during that time. He enjoyed watching and playing basketball. On October 7, 1941, in Browerville, MN, he married Veneitta Crist Peo who preceeded him in death on August 18, 2008. On June 8, 2013 he married Anna Harrison who survives in Merrillville, IN. He is also survived by his two daughters, Roberta and Sheila; grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great grandchildren; sister, Leslie Wooten of Michigan City, IN. Arrangements are being entrusted to Haverstock Funeral Home and Cremation Services, 602 Maple Ave., LaPorte, IN where the family will receive friends Wednesday, July 19, 2017 from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the service at the Springville Community Church, 5244 N. State Road 39, La Porte, IN 46350. A life celebration will be held at the Springville Community Church, at 11:00 a.m. with Pastor Jack Andrews and Pastor Ronald Burns officiating. Interment will follow at the Springville Cemetery, LaPorte, Indiana where a military service will be conducted by the Rolling Prairie VFW Post # 9423 Honor Guard.
