Robert Hayes

Mr. Robert Eugene Hayes, age 86, of Rochester, Ind., died 3:00 AM Tuesday, August 28, 2007, at his home in Rochester, Ind. He was born July 28, 1921 in Ladoga, Ind. to the late Leonard Hayes and the late Clella Apple Hayes. He has lived for many years in Granger, Ind., and 7 years in Rochester, Ind. going there from LaPorte, Ind. Mr. Hayes was a retired quality assurance superintendent for Allis Chalmers with 13 years of service. He had also worked at Bendix corp. for 25 years before going to Allis Chalmers. He was a Staff Sgt. & Master Cook in the US Army & Air Force during WW II, Decorated with 4 Bronze Stars. Past Commander of V.F.W. Post #1176 of South Bend, IN., was a Boy Scout Leader, and Foster Parent. He loved to read & loved being outdoors and loved to watch birds around his bird feeder. He enjoyed spending time with his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchild. He was married on December 18, 1941 in Covington, Ind. to Frances Windmiller who preceded December 19, 1991. He is survived by his Three Daughters, Carolyn Rosenbaum of Kingsford Heights, Ind., Carol Brown of LaPorte, Ind., Melody Sue Charles Schoff of Rochester, Ind.; Two Sons, Mitchell LaVada Hayes of Rochester, Ind., David Cindy Hayes of Granger, Ind.; Fourteen grandchildren; Sixteen great-grandchildren; One great-great-grandchild; Four Sisters, Marjorie L. Carnine of Fairland, Ind., Maxine Fouts of St. Cloud, Fla., Carol Keck of North Salem, Ind., Janet Jones of Indianapolis, Ind.; One Brother, Charles Hayes of Georgia. Arrangements are being handled by Haverstock Funeral Home, Inc., 602 Maple Ave., LaPorte, Ind., where the family will receive friends from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM Friday, August 31, 2007 and from 9:30 AM Saturday until time of the service. Funeral service will be at Haverstock Funeral Home, Inc. at 10:30 AM Saturday, September 1, 2007 , Bro. Ransom Ebersole officiating. Interment will be at Pine Lake Cemetery in LaPorte, Ind.
