Richard Nickels

Mr. Richard "Nick" A. Nickels, 82, of La Porte, Indiana, died Saturday August 14, 2010 at The Arbors at Michigan City, IN. He was born May 31, 1928 in Chicago, Illinois, the son of John Nickels and Florence Wulf Nickels. Richard worked as a Service Dept. Manager for Crown Coin Meter Company of Chicago for 33 years. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy during WW II and the Korean Conflict and a member of the V.F.W. Post #1130 of La Porte, IN. On June 6, 1953, in Chicago, IL, he married Florence Wlodarski Nickels who survives. He is also survived by his son Michael Christine Nickels of Chicago, IL; 2 daughters, Louise Rafael Cerpa of Chicago, IL, Janet Majewski of AZ; 8 grandchildren; and 9 great grandchildren. Richard was preceded in death by his parents, a son, Peter Nickels and a sister, Jean Nickels. Arrangements are being handled by Haverstock Funeral Home, 602 Maple Ave., La Porte, Ind. where the family will receive friends Tuesday, August 17, 2010 4:00 pm - 8:00 pm & Wednesday, August 18, 2010 9:30 am until time of the service. Services will be held at Haverstock Funeral Home, Inc., Wednesday August 18, 2010 at 10:30 AM. Cremation will follow the service. Interment of ashes will be in Pine Lake Cemetery at a later date.
