Richard Weston Euler October 2, 1925 - May 15, 2014 Mr. Richard W. Euler, 88, of La Porte, Indiana, died Thursday May 15, 2014 at his home. He was born October 2, 1925 in La Porte, Indiana, the son of Charles Sylvester Euler and Martha (Gottselig) Euler. Richard was known to many friends as "Otto." He was a 1944 Graduate of La Porte High School and played on the varsity golf team. He attended Purdue University then taught Drafting for two semesters during the startup period for Purdue North Central.. He served two years in the Army during the Korean Conflict, where he was stationed at the Army Headquarters in Heidelberg, Germany. On December 26, 1954, in Michigan City, he married Barbara Brown who survives. After 30 years of service, Richard retired in 1986 from Bendix Corp. as a Senior Automotive Designer in the Brake and Steering Division. He was awarded 6 patents for hydraulic and mechanical devices. Richard was also very proud of his designing contribution on the lunar landing gear with NASA's space program. Some of which, is now displayed at the museum of Science and Industry in Chicago. He was an avid golfer and had a respect and love for what the game of golf represented. Richard belonged to the Beechwood Men's Club for over 60 years. Richard was a 59 year member of First United Methodist Church. He had also been a member of the Jaycees and longtime member of Phi Delta Kappa, having served as its President in 1960 and drew plans for the Phi Delta Kappa building. Richard loved to sing and dance, he enjoyed spending time with family and friends. He was a loving husband, father, and grandfather. Always putting the needs of his family and close friends first. A true gentleman. Richard is survived by his son, William (Melody) Euler of Temple, TX; daughter, Julie Ann Euler of La Porte, IN; 3 grandchildren, Katherine, Rachel, and Weston Euler all of Temple, TX; many nieces and nephews; beloved granddogs, yorkie, Annie; and black lab, Rigley; special friends, Charles and Peggy Droege of LaPorte, IN, Joseph and Lola Pataluch of Granger, IN, and Peter and Irene Parks of Canada. Richard was preceded in death by his 6 sisters, Thelma LaHayne, Willow Pease, Edna Thode, Ruth O'Neil, Charlotte Ainsworth, June Garner, and 3 brothers, David Euler, Hugh and Arnold Blaney; life long friends, Clarence and Mildred Garwood. Arrangements are being entrusted to Haverstock Funeral Home and Cremation Services, 602 Maple Ave., La Porte, IN A life celebration will be held at the First United Methodist Church on Wednesday, May 21, 2014 at 11:00 am with Rev. Evan Lash officiating. Burial of Ashes will follow at Patton Cemetery.
