Richard Deardurff

Mr. Richard L. "Coach" Deardurff, age 76, of La Porte, Ind., died Sunday, November 16, 2008, at Golden Living Fountainview Terrace in La Porte, Ind. He was born on May 1, 1932 in Morocco, Ind. to the late Ray Deardurff and the late Jessie Elijah Deardurff. He was a member of Bethany Lutheran Church. Mr. Deardurff was employed by LaPorte High School, where he taught Marketing and Business and coached track and football for thirty-two years and retired in 1990. He was a Veteran of the U.S. Army, a member of the Elks of LaPorte, Phi Delta Kappa and Phi Delta Gamma and he was elected into the LaPorte High School Football Hall of Fame. On August 25, 1956 in Michigan City, Ind., he married Jean E. Rhoda, who preceded on October 4, 2003. He is survived by his; One Daughter, Mrs. Pam Vic Hodges of Roswell, Ga.; One Son, Mr. Richard A. Roxanne Deardurff of Indianapolis, Ind.; Four Grandchildren, Halle Hodges, Nick Hodges, Rachel Deardurff, Mitchell Deardurff; Four Sisters, Mrs. Carol Winkler of Phoenix, Ariz., Mrs. Ruth Schilla of Chesterton, Ind., Mrs. Beverly Williamson of LaPorte, Ind., Mrs. Sherry Siddal of La Porte, Ind. He is preceded in death by his; Parents and Wife, Jean Deardurff, Arrangements are being handled by Haverstock Funeral Home, Inc., 602 Maple Ave., LaPorte, Ind. Family will receive friends from 9:00 AM to 11:00 AM on Thursday, November 20, 2008 at the Bethany Lutheran Church in LaPorte. A Memorial Service will be held at 11:00 AM Thursday, November 20, 2008 at the Bethany Lutheran Church with Rev. Dennis Meyer, officiating. Burial of ashes will take place at Carmel Cemetery in LaPorte, Ind. at a later date.
