Reece E. Shaffner December 15, 1921-August 17, 2013 Mr. Reece E. Shaffner , 91, of Mill Creek, Indiana, died Saturday August 17, 2013 at his home. He was born December 15, 1921 in Apperson, Oklahoma, the son of William Ralph Shaffner and Floral (Rice) Shaffner. On June 14, 1947, in South Bend, IN, he married Lois Jean (McNabb) Shaffner who preceded him in death March 25, 2010. Reese and Lois moved to La Porte in 1955, coming from South Bend. They were the founders and former owners of Shaffner Tire in LaPorte, IN. He is survived by his 2 daughters - Pam Nickell of La Porte, IN, Wendi (Jon Barris) Shaffner of Manhattan Beach, CA; son - Ned Shaffner of TN; 12 Grandchildren - Eric, Lance, and Marc Oliver, Todd and Bethany Birkholz, Brook Stines, Scout Nickell, Paul, Keith, and Brian Shaffner, Max and Lauren Barris, and several great-grandchildren. Reece was preceded in death by his parents, wife, daughter, Sallie Carbiener, 2 sisters and 1 brother. Reece leaves a legacy of independence, innovation and a remarkable work ethic. Arrangements are being entrusted to Haverstock Funeral Home and Cremation Services, 602 Maple Ave., La Porte, IN. Cremation will take place.
