Mr. Randall "Blackie" Gene Perkins, age 57, of Hamlet, Indiana, died Saturday, January 12, 2008, at 11:20 pm at his home. He was born June 3, 1950 in LaPorte, Indiana to Harry and Dean Hall Perkins of Hamlet, Indiana. He served in the United States Navy as a Seabee. He served honorably during the Vietnam War and was stationed in Palau. Mr. Perkins was with Reith Riley Construction of Valparaiso Plant, retired in July 2006 after 37 years of service in construction. He was a member of Midwest Operating Engineers Local #150. A member of Tracy Methodist Church of Hamlet. He was, also, a member of the American Legion of Valparaiso. He loved life, enjoyed the outdoors, fishing, yard work and gardening, western movies and riding his motorcycle. He will always be remembered as a kind caring and compassionate person. Randy was a loving husband, father, grandfather, uncle and brother-in-law and will be dearly missed. On October 20, 1976, he married Debra Kay Hopper Perkins, who survives. He was a devoted father of Misty Page Bob Strebe of Hamlet, Indiana. Loving grandfather of Gavin and Kennedy Troche.Three sister-in-laws and two brother-in-laws; Patti Charlie Craft, Becky Baske, Scott Michelle Hopper. Mother and Father-in-law; Chuck and Louise Hopper, who supported and helped care for him during his illness. Also a sister-in-law; Jeanne Thomas Beaty.Three nephews and one niece; Ryan Garett, Nathan Baske, Keri Paul Dehart, Rob Wendy Perkins. He was preceded by his brother; John Lee Perkins. Arrangements are being handled by Haverstock Funeral Home, Inc. 602 Maple Ave. LaPorte, IN, where the family will receive friends from 2:00 PM to 8:00 PM Thursday, January 17, 2008 and from 9:00 AM Friday, January 18, 2008, until time of service. Funeral service will be at Haverstock Funeral Home at 11:00 AM Friday 01/18/2008. Internment will be at Kingsbury Cemetery, Kingsbury, Indiana. Memorial contributions may be made to: VNA Hospice Center of LaPorte and United Tracy Methodist Church.
