Mrs. Phyllis M. Travis, age 87, of La Porte, Ind., died 4:10 A.M. Sunday, March 16, 2008, at her home in La Porte, Ind. She was born June 23, 1920 in La Porte, Ind to the late Thomas Rose and the late Grace Taylor Rose. She has been a life long resident of the La Porte area. Mrs. Travis graduated La Porte High School in 1939, attended Ball State Teachers College 1939-1940, and graduate of South Bend College of Commerce in 1941. She was employed by Dr W.W. Ross 1941-1945, Dr. C.N. FIscher 1956-1962, Tupperware home parties 1962-1982 and retired from Beatty Memorial Hospital in 1982. She was a member of First United Methodist Church. She was also a member of Laureate Alpha Chapter of Beta Sigma Phi Sorority for 67 years, Miriam Benedict Chapter, National Society Daughters of the American Revolution Past Regent, LaPorte Chapter #280 Order of the Eastern Star Past Matron, Aretas Temple #153 Daughters of the Nile, Eagles Aux., LaPorte Historical Society, A.A.R.P., Charter member of the M.I. Hummel Club, LaPorte Hospital Aux. On March 7, 1947 in La Porte, IN she married Owen L. Travis who proceeded in death on January 18, 2008. She is survived by her One Daughter, Jean G. Albin of La Porte, Ind.; Two grandchildren, Jason Albin of La Porte and Joanna Cave of La Porte; Five great-grandchildren; and 3 nieces and 1 nephew all of La Porte. Preceded in death by her parents, husband, two sisters, Lois Willis, Jean Felton; Three brothers, Dale Rose, Vernon Rose, and Donald Rose. Arrangements are being handled by Haverstock Funeral Home, Inc., 602 Maple Ave., LaPorte, Ind., where the family will receive friends from 2:00 PM to 8:00 PM Tuesday, March 18, 2008 and Wednesday from 10:00 A.M. until time of service. Funeral service will be at Haverstock Funeral Home, Inc. at 11:00 AM Wednesday, March 19, 2008, Rev. Douglas Hadley officiating. Interment will be at Pine Lake Cemetery in La Porte, Ind. La Porte Chapter Order of the Eastern Star will conduct a service 6:30 P.M. Tuesday at the Haverstock Funeral Home.
