Phyllis J. Oakes November 16, 1929-February 19, 2018 Phyllis J. Oakes, 88, of LaPorte, Indiana, passed away Monday, February 19, 2018 at her home in LaPorte, Indiana. She was born November 16, 1929 in La Porte, Indiana, the daughter of Floyd D. Lang and Mary P.(Ellis) Lang. Phyllis enjoyed reading, making and painting ceramics, but her greatest love was being a homemaker and spending quality time with her family. On May 22, 1949, in La Porte, Indiana , she married Paul E. Oakes who preceded in death May 26, 1989. She is survived by her daughter, Gloria Ballard of La Porte, IN; son, Darwin Oakes of La Porte, IN; Sister, Marjorie Thompson of LaPorte, IN; four grandchildren, Ryan (Jodie) Oakes, Bradi (Travis) Ballard-Curtis, Dustin (Laura) Oakes, Brian (Laura) Ballard; six great-grandchildren, Ashley Oakes, Tyler Oakes, Madison Oakes, Charles Ballard, Colin Ballard, Jetson Curtis. Phyllis was preceded in death by both her parents, husband, and her sister, Lela Krassow. Arrangements are being entrusted to Haverstock Funeral Home and Cremation Services, 602 Maple Ave., La Porte, Indiana where the family will receive friends Thursday, February 22, 2018, 4:00 p.m. - 7:00 p.m. and Friday, February 23, 2018, 9:00 a.m. - 10:00 a.m. A life celebration will be held at Haverstock Funeral Home, Inc., Friday, February 23, 2018 at 10:00 a.m. with Pastor Pamela Pask officiating. Interment will follow at the Kingsbury Cemetery, Kingsbury, Indiana.
