Mr. Pedro H. Huerta, a beloved man who touched the lives of many, passed away Tuesday April 2, 2024 at 3:22 pm at Northwest Health La Porte in La Porte, IN.

He was born May 4, 1941, in Puebla, Mexico. Pedro's love for his family was evident in all he did. Family was the main focus of his life. Pedro had a kind and welcoming personality, always putting others at ease with his great sense of humor and compassion to help others.

He attended El Colegio Benavente in Puebla and studied Civil Engineering at the Universidad Autonoma de Puebla.

He came to the United States in 1973, first living in Lake Station. He lived in Portage for 27 years and in La Porte for 20 years. He worked at US Steel, Gary Works, for 29 years before retiring in 2003. He landed a summer job at Huber's Marine on Pine Lake as a ramp attendant. Twelve years ago, he took on a position as "Head of Operations" in the Wellness Room at the YMCA in La Porte. He gained the reputation of having an impeccable work ethic as a reliable employee and an ingenious mechanic who could fix anything anyone needed.

Pedro is survived by his wife, Lynn, of 46 years, his son Christopher Pedro Huerta, and his grandson Judah Christopher Huerta and many relatives and friends in Mexico and here in the United States.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Pedro and Ana Maria, seven sisters and two brothers. He was the youngest child in a large family. 

Arrangements are being entrusted to Haverstock Funeral Home and Cremation Services, 602 Maple Ave., LaPorte, IN where the family will receive friends Saturday, May 4, 2024 from 12 noon until 1:30 p.m. followed by a celebration of life memorial service at 1:30 p.m. at the funeral home. Cremation has taken place.
