Patricia Funk Heiss Horner was born in Sparta, Michigan on April 25th, 1936. She died peacefully at Miller’s Rehabilitation Center in LaPorte, Indiana on May 29th, 2021. Pat was born to Don and Hattie Funk who proceeded her in death. Pat attended Rockford schools and was a member of the Rockford Baptist Church and was baptized there at the age of 15. Pat was a high school graduate from Cedar Springs Adult Education in 1982. In 1954 she married Walter Heiss and had 6 children. Pat was very proud of working at Montgomery Wards in Grand Rapids for 17 years, until their closure and then moved on to Wal-Mart until she retired. Pat met Virgil Horner and married him on October 20th, 2001. They had 11 wonderful years of marriage until his passing in June of 2012. Virgil and Pat were members of the Galena Baptist Church and 1st Church of God in LaPorte, Indiana.

Pat is survived by 5 of the children born to her and Walter: Scott (Kathy), Kris, Penny, Tom & Dennis. Her oldest daughter Beth passed in 1984 and Pat missed her every day until her death. Pat is also survived by daughter Beth’s children: her grand-daughter Jennifer (Tim), great-grandchildren Megan (Jake) & Joe (Tim). Kevin (Megan) and their daughters, Beth & Brooke. Scott’s children: Bryan, Staci (Doug) and her children Tyler, Emma, Cody & Taylor as well as Scott’s youngest son, Adam. Tom’s children Jodi (Jess), Jerome and his daughter. Tom’s youngest daughter Julie preceded Pat in death. Kris’s daughter Sara and her children Emily, Allie & Julia. Dennis’s children Michelle & Jeffrey and his grandchildren. Penny’s daughter Jessica (Tom) and her children Inara & Raven. There are also many great-grandchildren. Pat is survived by her daughter-in-law, Chico (Rick) Horner. Pat also had seven siblings (4 sisters & 3 brothers), 5 who survived her: Nancy Mason who was her partner in crime for many years and was very special to Pat. Jean Toner, Jerri (John) Stuerzinger, Gary (Cindy) Funk & Wendy (Marv) Owen. Her two sisters-in-law Nancy & Gayle Funk. Pat was proceeded in death by her two brothers, Donald & Rex. She is also survived by many nieces & nephews as well as great nieces & nephews.

In Pat’s later years after Virgil had passed, she continued to reside in LaPorte. Nancy moved down to be with her and remained a steadfast partner through the years. Virgil’s daughter in law, Chico was also a very important and special person in Pat’s life. Chico cared for her for many years after Virgil passed. Chico was a daughter to Pat in every sense of the word and meaning. A very special thanks needs expressed as she did so much to care for Pat. She was a constant support and was with her up to the end. Thank you, Chico, for all you have done to make Pat comfortable, loved and cared for.

Arrangements under the careful direction of Haverstock Funeral Home and Cremation Services 602 Maple Ave. La Porte, IN 46350. The family has chosen cremation with a memorial service to be held on June 19th at 1pm at the Solen Township Cemetery in Rockford, Michigan.
