Orphie Loomis

Mr. Orphie M. Loomis, age 93, of La Porte, Ind., died Tuesday, October 21, 2008, at Golden Living Fountainview Terrace in La Porte, Ind. He was born September 13, 1915 in Rolling Prairie, Ind. to the late Howard Loomis and the late Elizabeth Kugert Loomis. He has been a life long resident of the LaPorte area. Mr. Loomis was a Maintenance Engineer for Bobko Inc. for 12 years and retired in 1977. He was a member of Hillcrest United Methodist Church. He was a Staff Sergeant with the Army Air Corp. during WW II. He was a member of the American Legion Post of Michigan City, Michigan City Masonic Lodge and Coolspring Township Volunteer Fire Department. He was an avid sportsman. He enjoyed outdoor activities, including gardening, mushrooming and camping. On February 2, 1942 in Westville, Ind. he married Rosetta Tolmen who preceded in death October 17, 1987. He is survived by his Two Daughters, Mrs. Janice Donald Mistretta of Van Nuys, Calif., Mrs. Sandra K. Harold Tiebert of La Porte, Ind.; One Son, Gene Paige Loomis of LaPorte, Ind.; Five grandchildren; Brett White, Scott Loomis, Jeanne Albers, Melissa Callahan, Amanda Tiebert; and Four great-grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his Parents; Wife; One Sister, Mrs. Catherine E. Bedenkop; Three Brothers, Norman L. Loomis, Dumont E. Loomis and Howard Loomis Jr. Arrangements are being handled by Haverstock Funeral Home, Inc., 602 Maple Ave., where the family will receive friends Friday, October 24, 2008 from 2:00 PM to 8:00 PM and Saturday October 25, 2008 from 9:00 AM until time of the service. The Funeral service will be held at the Haverstock Funeral Home at 10:00 AM Saturday October 25, 2008, with the Rev. Sue Aikman officiating. Interment will be at Swan Lake Memorial Garden in Michigan City, Ind. Memorial Contributions may be made to the Coolspring Township Volunteer Fire Department or the Michigan City Service League.
