Olive Mechling

Olive A. Mechling October 2, 1911 - March 20 2014 Olive Mechling, 102, of La Porte passed away March 20, 2014 at Brentwood Assisted Living. She was born October 2, 1911 in Rolling Prairie to William H. Hunt and Bertha (Hastings) Hunt. Olive was the last of the "Fabulous Hunt Sisters," as the family called them, a group that included Nellie Barcus, Sarah Burden, Eva Hunt, Julia VanKosky, and Wilma Jones. She was married to George R. Mechling for over sixty years, until his death in 1999. With no children of her own, she became a favorite aunt to three generations of nieces and nephews. A fixture at Brentwood since 2000, she delighted in moving from table to table in the dining room, engaging each group in good-natured conversation. She was a favorite of staff and residents alike. Olive was a 1929 graduate of Rolling Prairie High School and a member of the First Baptist Church of La Porte. A memorial service will be held Wednesday March 26, 2014 at 6:30 PM at Haverstock Funeral Home, 602 Maple Avenue in La Porte.
