Norman L. Lenick, 84, of La Porte, Indiana, died Monday March 2, 2009 at his home with his family at his side, in La Porte, IN. He was born July 21, 1924 in LaPorte, Indiana, the son of Fred E. Lenick and Louise Deisslen Lenick. Norman had lived in the LaPorte area, all of his life Norman was the third generation owner of Lenick's Dairy, Inc. of LaPorte and Michigan City, IN for thirty-eight years, retiring November 1, 1986. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church of LaPorte and a Veteran of the US Army during WW II, serving as a Sergeant of the 16th Armored Division. He was a member of the American Legion Post #83, VFW Post #1130, Masonic Excelsior Lodge #41, and Past President of the Pine Lake Cemetery Board. Norman was a former member of the Elks and Indiana Sheriff's Association; he served on the Planning and Construction Committee for LaPorte High School from 1973 to 1978, and was a former LaPorte Jaycee's member. He was a 1942 graduate of LaPorte High School and then went on to graduate from the Dairy Vocational School in Germany in 1946. On May 28, 1955, in LaPorte, IN. at the First United Methodist Church, he married Evelyn I. Solmos, who survives. He is survived by his wife, Evelyn I. Lenick of La Porte, IN, two daughters, Lori Troy Hutchinson of MI, Dorothy Lenick Didion of CA, two grandchildren, Katee Hutchinson and Kyle Hutchinson of MI. and one sister, Jean L. Tom Larson of La Porte, IN. Norman was preceded in death by his mother, father and one sister, Dorothy Lenick. Arrangements are being handled by Haverstock Funeral Home, 602 Maple Ave., LaPorte, Ind. where the family will receive friends on Thursday, March 5, 2009 from 2:00 pm to 4:00 pm and 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm, and from 9:00 am Friday, March 6, 2009, until time of the service. A Funeral Service will be held at Haverstock Funeral Home on Friday, March 6, 2009 at 11:00 am, with Rev. Evan Lash, officiating. Burial will follow in the Pine Lake Cemetery LaPorte, IN.
