Norma Jean West, age 86, of La Porte, IN, died March 25, 2021 at Franciscan Health, Michigan City, IN.
She was born October 6, 1934 in La Porte to Edward Carl Schweder and Leona Elizabeth (Cole) Schweder Ackerman.

A lifelong resident of La Porte, Norma was a housekeeper for La Porte Hospital until her retirement. She had many interests, including shopping and going to flea markets, playing solitaire, and going to the county fair with her grandchildren.  One of Norma’s favorite holidays was the 4th of July and she never missed a La Porte parade.  She loved watching Lifetime movies and everything that went along with Christmas, another favorite time to spend with her grandchildren.  And did we mention her grandchildren?  They were her special joy!

Norma was survived by her sons, Dennis West of La Porte, Terry (Kathy) West Sr. of La Porte, Chris (Doris) West of Kingsford Heights; daughter, Debbie ( Bruce) Shelley of La Porte; step-brother, Vernon Ackerman; grandchildren, Alisha(Eric) Krueger, Angela(Dennis Gonzalez)West, Shelby(Adam Brown) West, Terry West, Jr., Chantiel West, Matthew West, Jade West, Chris West, Alexis West and Tray West; great grandchildren, Madison, Emylia, Alaina Gonzalez, Bella Jaxson, Lincoln, Noah Brown, Cody, Danielle, Sage West, Dustin, Samantha, Savanah, Drew Becker, Katrina, Sienna, Braxton, Brayden West; great great grandchildren, Lyric, Levi, Whittlee, and Kashten.

Norma was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Arthur Allen West; son Kenneth West; sisters Doris Kemble and Marcela Creed.

Arrangements have been entrusted to Haverstock Funeral Home and Cremation Services, 602 Maple Ave, La Porte, IN 46350, where a visitation will take place on Friday, April 2, 2021 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. A graveside service will follow at 1:30 at Pine Lake Cemetery, La Porte.   Masks and social distancing are required if attending these events.
