Mrs. Nancy J. Bowers, age 66, of 136 Country Club Dr., La Porte, Ind., died 1:27 PM Tuesday, December 20, 2005, at LaPorte Hospital in La Porte, Ind. She was born May 6, 1939 in Oak Park, IL. to the late Joseph Korda and the late Jean Dvorak Korda Wittmaack. Nancy has lived most of her life in the Wanatah and LaPorte area. Mrs. Bowers was the Director of Diagnostic Imaging with the LaPorte Hospital for 35 years and retired in 2002. Mrs. Nancy J. Bowers career started at the Holy Family Hospital, then changed to "E" Street Hospital, she was very active in setting up the Diagnostic Imaging Department in the LaPorte Hospital, where she was appointed Director of Diagnostic Imaging and was very active in bringing the first CT Scanning and MRI Scanners to LaPorte Hospital. She was very much involved in the Cancer Treatment Center, Heart Cath Lab and the Women's Center. Mrs. Bowers belonged to the Indiana Society of Radiology & Technology, American Society of Radiology & Technology; she was a SHIIP Representative for the State of Indiana LaPorte Hospital. She was a member of the LaPorte Eastern Star and past officer of Daughter's of the Nile of Michigan City. She was a certified instructor for Donna Dewberry Painting. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church of LaPorte where she was a Parish Shepherd for the church and was on many committees at the church. On September 3, 1939 in Wanatah, IN she married Edwin Bowers who survives She is also survived by Two Sisters, Mrs. Patricia James Condon of Wilmington, N.C., Mrs. Micheline Larry Gargano of Decherd, Tenn.; Three Nieces, Cathy Richard Cavagnaro, Robin Richard Hammond, Jacqueline Brick; Five Great Nephews and her in-laws Elmer and Donna Bowers of Union Mills, IN. She is preceded in death by her parents. Arrangements are being handled by Haverstock Funeral Home, Inc., 602 Maple Ave., LaPorte, Ind., where the family will receive friends from 3:00 PM to 8:00 PM Thursday, December 22, 2005. An Eastern Star Service will be held at 7:30 PM Thursday at the funeral home by the LaPorte Eastern Star. Funeral service will be at First United Methodist Church at 11:00 AM Friday, December 23, 2005, Rev. Douglas Hadley and Rev. Steve Laue officiating. Interment will be at Pine Lake Cemetery in La Porte, Ind. Memorial contributions may be given to the First United Methodist Church Music Fund or the LaPorte Hospital Foundation.
