Myrtle A. Kautz, 83, of 805 Glenwood Dr., Fish Lake Walkerton, IN., died Monday, March 29, 2004, at 3:50 a.m. LaPorte County time at the home of her son Thomas Kautz in Argos, Indiana. She was born July 8, 1920, in Elkton, South Dakota, to Emil and Annie Steufen Dankert, and had lived here for 52 years, coming from South Dakota. Mrs. Kautz had retired after 17 years as a factory worker from American Home Food in LaPorte, IN. On January 28, 1938, in Elkton, South Dakota, she married Gerald Kautz, who preceded in death April 27, 1995. Also preceded her in death was a son, James R. Kautz, who was killed in the line of duty on December 4, 1997, as the Town Marshall for Long Beach, IN.; her parents; and three brothers, Elmer Dankert, Ervin Dankert, and Martin Dankert. Surviving are four sons, Charles E. Kautz and Gary T. Kautz both of LaPorte, David J. Kautz of North Liberty, IN., Thomas G. Helen Kautz of Argos, IN.; one daughter, Theresa L. Schmitt of South Bend, IN.; fifteen grandchildren; fifteen great grandchildren; two brothers, Kenny Diddens of California, Robert Diddens of Washington; and one sister Bernice Hines of St. Charles, MO. The funeral will be Thursday, April 1, 2004 at 10:00 a.m. at Haverstock Funeral Home, LaPorte, with Rev. Tom Padberg officiating. Friends may call Wednesday from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. and Thursday from 8:00 a.m. until the service. Burial will be in the Pine Lake Cemetery, LaPorte, IN.
