Mr. William Sornson

William J. L. Sornson, 83, of La Porte, IN, passed away on Tuesday June 14, 2011 at the Golden Living Center-Fountainview. He was born September 26, 1927 in Olyphant, Arkansas, the son of William W. Sornson and Mabel (Gowans) Sornson. He lived in the LaPorte for 60 years coming from Arkansas. William worked for thirty years at Joy Mfg and retired in 1989. He was a member of Masonic Lodge #41 F&AM, Scottish Rite of South Bend, IN. He was a Veteran of the US Army during WW II and a member of the VFW Post #1130. William enjoyed gardening and spending time with his family. On July 3, 1948, in LePanto, AR, he married Willie (Bailey) Sornson who preceded him in death on September 30, 2007. He is survived by his daughter - Sheila (Steven) Mitchell of Medford, OR; 1 grandchild - Angela Mitchell; 2 sisters - Emogene Fitzgerald of North Richland Hills, TX, Loreda Price of La Porte, IN; 2 brothers - Granville Sornson of Clearwater, FL, and John Sornson of La Porte, IN. William was preceded in death by his parents, and wife. Arrangements are being handled by Haverstock Funeral Home, 602 Maple Ave., LaPorte, Ind. where the family will receive friends Thursday, June 16, 2011 6:00 pm - 8:00 pm & Friday, June 17, 2011 9:30 am - 10:30 am. Services will be held at Haverstock Funeral Home, Inc., Friday June 17, 2011 at 10:30 am with Pastor Jack M. Cox officiating. Interment will follow at the Patton Cemetery, LaPorte, IN.
